Life hacks: A guide to yuletide shopping in Lagos.

I unapologetic-ally love my city ( fuel scarcity, warts and all). Lagos is a beautiful city with beautiful people. Nonetheless, it can be a real nightmare for the yuletide shopper, particularly in popular commercial hubs and open air markets like Eko-Idumota, Oshodi and others.
So here are some suggestions given based on experiential knowledge that ought to help you stay safe and sane while shopping in Lagos this season.

1. Eat before you head out: Except you are fasting or for some other very important reason. It is in your best interest to get some food into your system before heading out. Lagos markets have a way of stressing people out. For those of you default there is always street food to bail you out.

2. Dress for the occasion: You see shopping in Lagos has its own dynamics, and one of such is looking market appropriate. Do not wear flowy outfits, avoid heels, tone down your jewellery, avoid heavy makeup( not every time fleeky). The ideal outfit would be jeans and a tee or tank or the good old ever reliable iro and buba ( the outfit that never slys).

3. Ensure you go to the market with cash in hand: The ATM queues at theses markets just never end. Its almost like some people are withdrawing their sins. So just jejely avoid all of that stress and go to the market cash in hand to avoid and get straight to the business of shopping.

4. Do not bring the kids: This is very important . Keep your minors away from the nearly-traumatising experience of shopping. Take all their measurements, ask for their favourite colours, you can even bring a child mannequin; anything to keep them away from all that hassle.

5.Stay hydrated: I can't stress this enough. You need to keep those fluids coming.  The last thing you need is to feel dizzy or dehydrated while shopping.

Christmas shopping in Lagos is not for the faint hearted. For first timers brace yourself; its an experience unlike any other. In light of this, i'd like to wish everyone the best on their shopping trips and a most a most enjoyable yuletide.

                                                                                                                  Christmas hugs and kisses,
                                                                                                                                             Tirzah.
